Hello and welcome to the EO Stars U13AA tryout process for the 2024-2025 season. My name is Emma Shimizu and I have the privilege of coaching the U13 AA team this season. The EO AA program is dedicated to high-performance development, aligning closely with AA/AAA programs across the province.
As we jump into the new season, our U13 AA program will continue building on the solid foundation established by our existing AA programs. Our primary goal is to refine the fundamental skills of our players while simultaneously enhancing their hockey knowledge to strengthen team cohesion and in-game strategies. We are committed to long-term athlete development and comprehensive player growth, focusing not only on technical proficiency but also on mental and physical aspects of the game. Our approach for this season revolves around nurturing well-rounded players who excel both on and off the ice.
The key areas of focus necessary for competing and achieving success at the AA level include individual skills such as, skating, edgework, puck handling, passing and shooting. Players and their families must be prepared and willing to fully commit to individual player development throughout the season, both independently and in alignment with the team’s development plan.
Aside from individual skills, significant weight will be placed on the following core competencies:
Hockey IQ: A player’s ability to consistently read and react to plays appropriately.
Compete level: A player’s willingness to engage in physical play to win puck battles.
Positioning: Ability to maintain proper positioning in various game situations, including offensive and defensive scenarios, as well as the awareness of teammates' positions and ability to support plays effectively.
Attitude: Shows resilience and determination, even in challenging situations while displaying sportsmanship and respect towards all players and staff.
Work ethic: Exhibits a strong commitment to continuous improvement and personal development. The player consistently puts in full effort during practices, games, and off-ice
training sessions.
Coachability: Openness to feedback from coaching staff. Players must have the ability to implement the suggested adjustments into gameplay.
The evaluation process will reflect the Hockey Canada Pathway guidelines as follows and be conducted by a group of impartial evaluators. I understand that tryouts are a stressful time for all parties, and I wish all athletes the best of luck and a great season with their prospective teams.
See you at the rink.
